The Unimagined Future of Smart Homes

The alarm buzzed earlier than usual this morning. No, it is not a malfunction. The smart clock scanned your schedule and adjusted it since you have that presentation preparation to do in the morning. When you get out of bed and walk to the bathroom, your shower automatically turns on and warms to your preferred temperature. Your toasted bread is ready, and the solar panel has already charged your electric car.  

Returning home, opening the door, you see an unexpected package delivered by drone. Opening it, you found a coil of medicine. While taking a bath in the morning, health sensors embedded in your bathroom detect the sign of ill-health and place the order automatically.  

This is at least a visionary version of a smart home that could exist in the coming 10 years. A Swedish research firm says by 2025, 63 million American homes would qualify as smart homes. Everything is connected to internet light bulbs to cameras to keep an eye on our house from the office.  

A few years ago, research predicted that we would transition from the physical light switch on/off to voice assistant, and we did. Alexa, please switch on the light! Thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence, the smart home concept are becoming a reality, and, in the future, it will be truly able to learn about its owners, eventually knowing their needs.  

Robotics will help us in our home. Access to all this activity would be solely due to the data collected, analyzed, and acted upon by the smart home as it transforms a regular home into a smart home.  

As our homes will be a home for all automated gadgets and sensor machines, the automated gadgets will come with high-value price tags. By the time consumers spend most of their earnings on all these IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

Naturally, keeping our homes secure will become even more crucial as they learn more about us. Hackers could target any device that is connected to the Internet. Security will be much more important when considering technologies that can remotely access our homes, use cameras to gaze into our living rooms, and capture our most private and sensitive information.  

Technological advancements will push smart-home technology far beyond what is now on the market. Artificial intelligence has the potential to automate and coordinate all the different devices found in modern homes.  

Future smart homes will have a significant robotic component. Robotic dogs for kids and smart vacuum cleaners are already assisting in the development of smart homes.  

At least some of the expansion of smart homes will be driven by health applications over the next ten years. If customers are choosing sugary sodas a little too frequently, cameras and sensors built into refrigerators will recommend healthier options. Medicine cabinets equipped with similar technology will monitor whether residents have taken their prescriptions.  

Whether you intend to or not, you are more likely to find yourself in a connected house at some point. The Internet of Things will play a significant role in the future of smart houses. Future generations will do business and live their lives with smart technology. Everything would be analyzed, including waking up, working, being healthy, and eating.
